The intestine and adverse food reactions

People with acquired adverse food reactions cannot digest certain components of food. Acquired adverse food reactions occur most frequently with dairy products and fructose. The reason for this is that the digestive system cannot optimally digest the components of foods containing milk and/or fructose. However, if the intestine contains quantities of the relevant useful intestinal bacteria, the processes involved in the digestion of lactose and fructose are supported. As a result, less fermentation will take place in the intestine and there will be fewer complaints associated with fermentation.

Adverse food reactions, particularly lactose intolerance, affect up to 65% of the world’s adult population. A distinction must be made between hereditary and acquired intolerances. Hereditary intolerances have a genetic origin and are therefore not treatable. Acquired intolerances can develop in the course of a lifetime and fluctuate in their severity. The main reason why some people cannot digest dairy products is because they lack the enzyme lactase, which is required for the breakdown of lactose in the small intestine. As we grow up from infancy, we start digesting foods other than milk and, as a consequence, most people’s bodies therefore produce less lactase. This is why lactose ends up undigested in the large intestine, where fermentation sets in, bloating the abdomen. In addition, the colon absorbs more and more water as lactose binds water, causing the intestine to fill up faster than usual with stool that becomes more and more liquid. Furthermore, the decomposition of lactose produces acids that stimulate intestinal movement and lead to cramps. The consequences are obvious: Flatulence, cramps, and diarrhea. The same is true for fructose intolerance: the fructose ends up undigested in the colon. Sluggish transport proteins in the wall of the small intestine are to blame, which normally transport the fructose into the bloodstream. If it ends up undigested in the colon, it will trigger similar fermentation processes as undigested lactose, causing flatulence, cramps and diarrhea once again. contains 6 active bacterial cultures.

    Recommended ingestion

The live microorganisms come in the form of a powder contained in capsules with enteric coating. This is to ensure that they pass through the stomach without any problems. During digestion, the stomach produces acid and enzymes which the microbes would not survive. To make absolutely sure that the capsules will arrive undamaged in the intestine, it is recommended that the capsules be ingested 20 to 30 minutes before a meal. By the time they reach the intestine, the coating has dissolved and the bacterial strains can colonize the colon. If you want to get the bacteria colonizing as soon as possible, it is recommended to take two capsules a day (preferably one in the morning and one in the evening). However, if you find you have a slight reaction – many people temporarily experience flatulence due to the prebiotic inulin – ingestion should be reduced to one capsule per day. It is not a problem to discontinue ingestion for 1-2 days such that the body may slowly get used to the microbes and the inulin. If you also take antibiotics, you should take at least 2 hours either before or after you take your antibiotics. Compatibility with other probiotics from BIOMES and drugs: It is possible to combine two or more probiotic food supplements from BIOMES. However, for the microbes to develop optimally, we recommend not to take more than one probiotic food supplement at any one time. The recommended maximum number of capsules is 2 per day. As long as this dose is not exceeded, the permanent ingestion of probiotic food supplements such as is absolutely safe. No side effects with other drugs are known. Food supplements do not substitute for a balanced and varied diet. Please store out of the reach of children. If you suffer from a severe histamine intolerance, you should not take this probiotic composition. We recommend to people who have a known intolerance of this type. Probiotic food supplements may be taken permanently or temporarily with the objective of colonizing the intestine with useful bacteria for the long term.
